Staff Biographies
Zak George
Zak grew up east of Colorado Springs, CO on a small farm where his family raised goats and he was very active in 4-H throughout his life. Being in 4-H helped shape him into the person he is today as well as where he would meet his future wife Robben. Zak has been in the nursery & landscape business since 1996 and graduated from Colorado State University with a Business Management degree in 2003. After an internship in Orlando, FL at Walt Disney World he returned to Northern Colorado and started ZGL. When Zak was asked about his business he had this to say. “When I started my own business in Fort Collins I decided to build it on the cornerstone that ZGL would be a business people could trust. Trust to do a quality job, trust to charge a fair price, trust to be there if a problem arose and trust to take care of all their project needs. Unlike many other company’s, I have craftsmen who can do everything you might want for your yard. We do state-of-the-art irrigation systems and landscaping that makes you smile every time you come home or go into the back yard. It is my sincerest promise to our customers that as long as I am, ZGL will live up to our motto: “A Local Business You Can Trust.”
Robben George
Robben was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. After graduating from Lamar Community College in Lamar, CO she was uncertain of what she wanted to do with her life. Robben worked at a Nursery in Colorado Springs for 3 and half years, when she finally realized her love for all things plants. Deciding to pursue a career in Horticulture she moved to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University. While working at a local garden center and taking classes Robben and Zak decided that the business was just growing too fast and he needed a full time office person. That was it and here she is today doing all things office related! When you call the office it is more than likely Robben’s voice you will hear answering the phone. Robben has been with ZGL from the very beginning although not in the literal sense but she is married to Zak so she claims she helped ZGL become what it is today.
Matt Verderaime
You can call him Matt Verdi for short, don’t worry about trying to pronounce his last name properly. Matt was born and raised in Pueblo, CO and started out doing construction at a young age in High School, including laying hardwood floors and installing carpet. After High School he moved to Fort Collins to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has been here ever since. Matt has been with ZGL for 4 years and is the Jack of all trades. Not only is he our Deck, Fence and Hardscape supervisor but he helps with everything around the office, you name it he has done it. Of course you wont see him doing these things on the job, but if you see him give him a big glasses of iced tea because trust us, he needs it!
Fernando Leyva
Fernando has been with Zak George Landscaping for 3 years and been in the Landscape industry for 10 years. He received a degree in Enterprise Information Management from FCA University in 1995 after graduation he worked in a bank for awhile. Upon moving to Fort Collins he decided to switch professions and never look back! As the Landscape Supervisor at ZGL Fernando does everything from install to irrigation repairs. Being fluent in English and Spanish he continues to be a huge asset to our Company. When Fernando is not working, which is rare, he spends time with his wife Vanessa and their 3 children.
John Fugatt
John grew up on a small ranch in southwest Louisiana active in 4-H, FFA and team roping. He has a dynamic background having done many things but has found the landscaping industry to be a natural fit for him as he loves working and playing in the outdoors. He has a bachelors degree in business management and is a US Army veteran of Desert Storm. John especially enjoys working in small business. He has always believed that great customer service is the cornerstone to success and that makes working at ZGL an excellent fit. John has two children and when not working enjoys mountain biking, fly fishing and skiing.
